The Modern and Futuristic of Charles P. Allen High School

This modern and futuristic looking school embodies the energy of the evolving community around it. It serves as a beacon to the future and a symbol of modern education, while setting the pace for any development that follows.

This building has a dramatic expression set on a large site, commanding the area around it. It has a modern and thoughtful composition with a subtle outline reminiscent of a whale breaching the water; an acknowledgement of the local rock outcroppings dubbed ‘whales-backs’ by our native people.

The organizational concept is largely driven by the notion that this school should have a strong connection to the natural landscape, a landscape considered to be sacred by our native people for its beauty and strategic location at the headwaters of Bedford Basin.
